Questions about Taekwondo

  • Taekwondo is a Korean Martial Art, while Karate is a Japanese Martial Art. Some techniques are the same, however Taekwondo emphasizes the kicks more. Karate tends to focus more on solid stances, power, and strength, whereas Taekwondo focuses on flexibility, speed, and mobility.

  • We ensure to teach practical, responsible self-defense tactics. Martial arts, when taught correctly, is not about violence but about developing skills they can use safely in a tough situation. If your child is exhibiting aggressive behaviour at school and in the classroom, this usually disappears with continued training and increased self-esteem/confidence.

  • This typically depends on how often the student is coming into the gym. The number of years can range anywhere between 3 to 6 years.

This also depends on how early they start training as well.

Questions about our programs

  • The main costs you’ll have to think about when registering yourself or your child for Taekwondo are: monthly program costs, new uniforms (we offer free uniforms with new memberships—but students are responsible for purchasing new uniforms if they grow out of their previous ones), and belt test costs.

We want to be as transparent as possible about our pricing, so if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out.

  • Life happens. Whether it’s because your child doesn’t have time, or you’re moving, or you simply can’t afford the program—that’s totally fine. We want to be as flexible as possible which is why we don’t tie anyone into contracts. Just give us 30 days notice (via email or in person) and we’ll cancel your membership. You will always be welcome back at our studio, no matter what!

  • Yes, you can pause your membership. Please let us know ahead of time so we can ensure that your recurring payments are adjusted.

We ask that any vacations or time-off for 1 to 2 weeks don’t get paused, but you are more than welcome to book make-up classes before and after your vacation.

  • Yes, absolutely! You are more than welcome to book make-up classes if you are sick and/or your class time falls on a stat holiday. Just let us know!

  • The youngest age we accept in our Star Kids Club program is 4 years old.

If your child is or almost 4 years old, please take advantage of our 1-week free trial program. This will allow us to work with them and evaluate their readiness for group classes. We will use their experiences to recommend the best course of action for you and your child.

  • Yes. Our classes and hours stay the same during the Summer, with the exception of a 1-week break in the middle for our staff.

We let our parents/students know in advance, so they can book make-up classes for that time off.
